The project charter is a statement of commitment and is the basis for evaluating project direction and results. The project charter will evolve during the life of the project. It is used to evaluate changes to the project’s scope and objectives and assess the impact of proposed changes on schedules and budgets.

To accelerate development of the project charter, we developed a project charter template that also serves as the primary project plan document. This template defines the document structure and includes instructions for developing each section.

Project Schedule

The project schedule is the another critical document, along with the project charter, necessary to effectively manage a project. The project schedule describes the work breakdown structure (WBS) and timeline for the project.

The project's WBS represents 100% of the work effort necessary to complete the deliverables within the scope of the project. The WBS is typically displayed in a hierarchy showing high-level stages/phases down to low-level tasks. All planned and actual work is entered at the lowest level task and rolled up to the high levels.
